What Is A Plant-Based Diet?

Plant Based: a diet based on foods derived from plants including fruit, vegetables, legumes and whole grains, but with the use of few to no animal products.

1. We Love Our Home

We feel incredibly lucky to live on a planet with such a beautifully intricate ecosystem and want to do our best to preserve it. More and more research is showing the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle when it comes to reducing the pollution caused by modern factory farms. By limiting intake of animal products, we eliminate a huge portion of the greenhouse gases that are emitted by such farms. It takes over twenty servings of vegetables to produce the greenhouse gases that are emitted by a single serving of beef. It is also important to consider the use of anti-biotics, hormones, and other chemicals given to the livestock. All of these toxins get leached back into the soil, land and air. What's more is that they create super-bacteria that wreak havoc on the health of both humans and other species.

Plant-based diets promote healthy bodies. Eating a wide variety of vegetables, seeds, nuts, whole grains and fruits every day means maximizing your intake of nutrients. Plants contain a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, omegas and phytonutrients that have been proven to regulate and maintain your body’s natural rhythms. Plant based diets have been proven to lower cholesterol, balance blood sugar, reduce inflammation, boost circulation, regulate hormones and even boost brain power. Animal products, on the other hand, tend to involve more processing. There are multiple links between the consumption of animal products and diseases such as; diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and weight gain.

Every day each individual is said to make around 200 decisions about food. That is 200 times a day we can be choosing to take care of ourselves and one another. By buying local, organic and in season plant-based food we support the health of our community. We bring business to farmers who take care of the soil that will provide nutrients for the future. Eating a plant-based diet provides the basis of what we need to nourish both our bodies and minds, while minimizing the environmental strain that comes with the consumption of animal products. Being plant-based is not about being better than anyone else, it’s about being the best version of ourselves and inspiring others to do the same. It’s about taking care of our home and our community while acknowledging the impact we have on generations to come.
