Local Hamilton resident, Sara Wiseman, has been an excellent addition to our team. Sara's had years of experience in the kitchen and has loved watching Hamilton’s food scene evolve into one that appreciates a healthier style of cooking.
Sara never expected to work in the food industry, but says she fell in love with the work while spending time working in an organic kitchen in Salt Spring Island, B.C. She’s now been working in the industry for about 20 years and still remains inspired by her work.
“It was a perfect combination for me; I felt that I was doing valuable work serving people but it was also fulfilling creatively.”
In #HAMONT, you may have run into Sara at Green Bar where she has helped to evolve the menu from a smoothie bar to a full vegan restaurant. Sara says her goals when developing recipes for specialized diets is to make food that will be appealing and tasty to everyone rather than a small niche group.
Recently, Sara has been putting her amazing skills to work in the kitchen for upcoming prepared meals to be found at the new Dundurn Market. One of the key elements of the Dundurn Market that makes Sara really excited to be a part of our team is our aim to reduce and minimize plastic packaging and waste.
“I love this idea and I think the people in Hamilton are ready for this change! We haven’t found it easy, in some cases, to finds alternatives to disposable and plastic packaging. But as more people are demanding plastic-free options, I think we are going to see a lot more options available soon.”
Sara feels strongly about the impact of the food industry on the environment and feels that the most important thing we can do in the next ten years is to support small-scale, sustainable food production and our local food distributions systems... and we couldn't agree more! WTG Sara!!
