The NEW Dundurn Market will be your one-stop shop for everything local and organic, with an emphasis on minimal waste. The team that brings you the NEW Dundurn Market is headed by local Hamiltonians, Justin and Roger Abbiss. You may be familiar with the pair from their other projects, Bikeables and Coffeecology. The father-and-son duo are passionate about cycling, the environment, health, and all things Hamilton—so it only makes sense that a minimal-waste, local market would be their next project.
For those of you familiar with Bikeables or Coffeecology, the market will be a store-front for the two. We are committed to providing healthy, in-season and local goods, while eliminating the need for plastic. You’ll find great local produce from farms such as Manorun Organic, The City Harvest, Paradise Fields, NomadicGreens, and Backyard Harvest Farm, as well as local meats from VG meats and other local farms. Along with your everyday goods and essentials, you’ll also find a large bulk section, freshly baked bread and treats from De La Terre, deliciously prepared meals (both vegan and non-vegan options), hot drinks, fresh-roasted & organic coffees, and plenty more locally made items!
Our team is also excited to introduce Sara Wiseman as our head chef and market manager. Sara has an impressive resume as a manager, head chef, and baker at various local Hamilton restaurants and coffee shops. She is passionate about the environment, creating delicious and healthy dishes, and meaningfully serving her community.
Providing a connection between our customers and the farmers who grow their foods is an important priority at the market. We want you to know where your food is coming from, who’s growing it and why it’s so important to support local and sustainable farming. We hope to hold many events during closed market hours so we can be a vital component of the Kirkendall neighbourhood. Events will include; Meet-the-Farmer socials, as well as nutrition and cooking workshops.
In order to uphold our minimal-waste values, we will be offering many of our products in mason jars and ask that our customers bring in containers to fill up at the bulk section. We will also be offering goods delivered on a frequent schedule by bicycle or electric/hybrid vehicle in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
